Genomics England

Principal content designer

I am the principal content designer for the Newborns Genome Programme at Genomics England. I oversee and create all of the Generation Study materials for both healthcare professionals and participants.

My content design work can be seen on the study website and throughout hospitals in England.

Sauce Labs

Principal content strategist

I was the sole content strategist, focused on product content,  creating and implementing a content strategy for all community, product, and educational content. This included content design, content engineering and content operations. I created an Accessibility Conformance Report for the product which earned the company more opportunities. I created and managed an editorial calendar and content planning for all community content, including blogs, podcasts, Twitch streams, YouTube shows and newsletters. I was the content mentor in Sauce’s first fellowship program, focused on fostering diversity and inclusion in the open source community. I also established and lead an employee resource group for employees with disabilities.

Indeed

Content strategist

As a content strategist, I was embedded on a cross-functional “vision” team. I performed regular research with job seekers about what is important to them when looking for work. From these moderated studies, I created and managed regular A/B/n tests on the live site, as well as created long-term data-driven goals for the Indeed search. Some key content achievements were adding the right information to job cards and adding accurate search filters. Since the onsite search was only keyword-driven, I laid out a plan for implementing a taxonomy and ensuring that jobs were properly categorised. I also wrote all product copy for Indeed search projects and co-led office hours to assist other product areas with UX copy needs.

RetailMeNot

UX content strategist

As the first UX content strategist, I supported every product line, prioritising and writing needed UX copy. I created guidelines for designers and product owners to ensure high-quality, accessible, repeatable content. I authored the design system, style guide and pattern library content components to ensure usability and accessibility. I worked with designers and product owners throughout all phases of the design process, and integrated all feedback into the final content. As the content process showed great success (and demand), I hired and managed contractors to support and grow the UX writing discipline at RMN.

Whole Foods Market

Managing editor, digital

As the managing editor for all digital content at Whole Foods, I was part of the team that was reimagining and replatforming the outdated site. I worked cross-functionally to gather requirements, understand goals and create comprehensive and clear content and accessibility plans, while also maintaining, managing and improving content on the existing site and app. I mapped and created content for a new chatbot, to lessen support calls. Additionally, I worked with regional offices to ensure that we were building a site that could include local, relevant content without having to go through the corporate office.

AMD

Managing editor

Over the course of my many years at AMD, I did all of the content design and strategy work, and created an editorial team to write and manage web content and microcopy. I developed the content plan for the replatforming of AMD.com which included bringing the site down from 10,000+ to ~350 pages. Along with digital product strategists, I  developed and implemented a taxonomy on the new site. Additionally, I managed all of the brand elements, templates, XML and CSS for the new site. A key focus was improving the localisation and translation process, which was onerous and manual on the previous site. I developed a governance plan for translated content, and ensured that the system was set up to simplify the process. This included creating translated libraries for common vocabulary and processes to ensure that local content was not overwritten by US English when updates were made.
